About the club
The Kern Premier Aquatics Club is a USA Water Polo registered club. We are a non-profit, two year old water polo club in Kern County. We provide swim and water polo education and fitness to our members ranging from the ages of 5-18. The club is directed by a board of parent volunteers and local coaching staff.
We are the evolution of the Bakersfield Water Polo and Swim Club, which was originally established as the Bakersfield Water Polo Club (BWPC), in October 2007 when founder and Club Director, Jason Gall, moved to Bakersfield with his wife. At the time, the only water polo being played in Kern County was at CSUB with the collegiate women. There was no water polo in the high schools, and despite a strong swim community, Bakersfield did not have a youth water polo team. Coach Gall saw the need for water polo to be available to the youth of Kern county and quickly established the BWPC. The first practices in the Fall of 2007 were made up of 5-15 kids ages 8-18, boys and girls.
Coach Gall was able to field both boys and girls teams, at almost every age group. His club teams grew, they competed in Master’s tournaments, Collegiate level tournaments, and have won medals at the Junior Olympics. Since 2011, numerous BWPC players have gone on to play collegiate water polo at either the University or Community College level, as well as participate in Olympic Development programs and earn USA WP Academic and Athletic All-American accolades. Coach Gall is the reason the Kern Premier Aquatics Club exists.
In the summer of 2021, Coach Gall and his family moved to Texas. Since that time, with a lot of Coach Gall’s help, BWPC transitioned to the Kern Premier Aquatics Club. The mission is the same, the participants are the same, and the facilities are the same. While we will long miss our founder, we look forward to growing aquatics programs in Kern County and are excited about the future. With the addition of water polo to many Kern High schools, the area is ripe for growth.
